Tomato Studies

paintingfriends.com is hosting a 30 day Paint Along in June.  We pick our own subjects and do a painting a day for 30 days.  Thanks to Wyna for the idea.  To start, I decided to do some studies of tomatoes using the same photo.  The goals for these studies are achieve better values with reds and practice shadows.  Other goals were to practice painting stems and controlling the paint/water ratio to get cleaner lines and look to the work.

My camera is turning the reds to a more orange red when in actuality there is a mix of blue reds in shadows with the more orange reds in the light.

I love the color of the red merging with the shadows. Beautiful.
I have noticed the same thing with the camera popping red and the same with blue. I try to adjust it but it is still not always correctable.
