Mums WIP, First Stage

I began this peony painting this morning on a half sheet (15"x22") Fabriano Aristico 140lb. paper.  I am doing my best to draw with the brush rather than pencil.  This one will take me awhile as I don't have much patience for petal by petal painting and have to walk away from it frequently.  Palette used for this initial layer is Prussian Blue, Deep Scarlet, Quin. Rose, Quin. Burnt Orange, New Gamboge, and Azo Yellow.

Ann, this is a wonderful start...the heart of the flower is beautifully painted. I love peonies and will be back to watch this one grow under your magic touch.

Beautiful! I haven't tried to fill a half sheet in a while; maybe it's time!
