Rooster on Yupo

Continuing with my study of roosters and watercolors, this was painted on a 4" x 6" Yupo paper which is a plastic support used with watercolors. This was my first experience with Yupo and found that the paint merges easily, and in some areas the paint will bead. The paint has to thoroughly dry before continuing to add other colors or the colors next to each other have a tendency to blend and merge, sometimes making mud. The same colors were used in this rooster as in the first one previously posted. See how the colors have merged making a nice dark.

Rooster

Last night I played with the watercolors attempting to get the essence of a rooster. This 4" x 5 1/2" study is painted on cold press paper. I like the blend of colors but need to work on shapes more.

Beta Fish Watercolor

I added some background and water movement then cropped the painting to 11 1/2" x 10". This photo was taken outside, late afternoon.
14" x 10" hot press watercolor paper. I had such fun painting this little guy. I was just practicing strokes trying to learn a bit about Chinese painting. I failed miserably at the strokes so will be doing more practice. I hope that learning the minimal strokes used in Chinese painting it will teach me to minimize them in other mediums.

Ink Sketch, A Woman Looking

This is a terrible quick ink sketch this morning, just trying for proportions. I'm posting this so that later after more practice, the improvements can be viewed.

Graphite Sketch, A Woman Looking

A graphite sketch from a photograph of a woman paused on the street looking for someone. I positioned the legs wrong and the length of her right arm was too long so lots of erasing. Will be doing more sketches of this photo trying to get the svelte look of her figure.

Winter Landscape Oils

I worked more on the winter snowscape. In real life the painting has a beautiful glow to it. This photo was taken outside this morning. I think I will call this one "Winter Blues". Now the painting will be set aside to dry.
