Strawberry Queen Sketch

Another quick pencil sketch from a photo taken in 1948 of the Queen of the Strawberry Festival. Back then, candidates for Queen were selected to represent each strawberry grower's field or patch. At that time, strawberries were a good business. This queen represented my parents' field.

I didn't sketch in the background but wanted to get a feel for the shape/mass/values of the figure.

Hi Deb, thanks for looking. Yes, this is going to be part of my next painting. I just found an 8" x 10" photo of her face so should be able to get a better likeness.

Hey Ann, of course I love your work and can't wait to see this painted. I thought Pat Reed was the first queen in '48. Is that her? Get to painting. Goldie

You are probably right on the date and the Queen. I checked the date on the photo and it is 1949 and Patsy Prock was Queen from Dad's strawberry patch. I'm glad you caught that. :)
