Color Mixing Darks

This morning I've been trying to achieve luminous darks, where the color looks dark but transparent and other colors shine through. I flipped over a used piece of watercolor paper that had blobs of color on it from painting wet in wet on the front and letting it drip on the desk easel. So this study started off with grays which are the gray colors in the sky. Then I dropped in Indanthrone Blue, misted it with water, then added Perinone Orange. From there I added Quinacradone Red and Cadmium Yellow Pale. Misted the paper again, tipped and tilted it do the colors mixed and dripped. Then I use the end of a Flat and scraped in tree trunks. Fast and furious but fun. Not a painting but a lovely way to learn color mixing.
